Costco’s summer deals have already started, with plenty of great sales opportunities planned for the coming months. So far, I’ve seen promotions on camping equipment, grills, vacation travel packages, and outdoor furniture. I also spotted one of the most unusual Costco products I’ve ever seen in a warehouse — the Crocodile Save Adventure Water Slide ($399), equipped with a water cannon that your friends can use to, yes, pulverize you whenever you slide down the crocodile’s mouth.
With that in mind, let’s turn to a handful of fantastic summer products that Costco is currently selling.
1. Cordless fan
Price: $149.99
Many years ago, when I still lived in Georgia, my friends and I would skateboard every summer in the relentless heat and humidity of the south. If only one of us had had a cordless fan — goodness! Just the thought makes me wonder how much longer we could have lasted outside.
Oh well. If you’re outdoors, somewhere far from an outlet, the Shark FlexBreeze Cordless Fan w/Pedestal to Tabletop Capabilities can give you up to 24 hours of endless breeze. The cost at Costco is on par with other retailers — same price at Walmart, but $50 more expensive at Best Buy — and you get Costco’s generous 100% Satisfaction Guarantee, which lets you return this for a full refund at any time.
2. Portable air conditioner
Price: $219.99 ($279.99 after June 20, 2024)
Another invention I could have used long ago, the Black+Decker 5,100 BTU (SACC/CEC) Portable Air Conditioner is as it sounds: An easy-to-move A/C unit that you can carry around the house. Although it’s not cordless, you can control it through an app on your smartphone. Through today (June 20, 2024), you can get a $60 discount, bringing the price lower than other retailers, including Amazon ($300) and Home Depot ($271).
3. Surfboard
Price: $99.99
Surfing isn’t just limited to the summer — indeed, depending on where you live, the best waves are usually after a nice, bitter cold front. However, in the spirit of summer and beaches, Costco is now selling a Scott Burke 5’8″ Foam Sushi Surfboard. It’s a foam board, which makes it ideal for those who have some experience surfing a longboard, but not enough balance to upgrade to a shorter poly or EPS board. It also comes with a deck tracker, fins, and leash.
All in all, it’s a great price, especially since other outdoor shops sell the same board for more, like Cabelas ($150) and Walmart ($200).
4. Giant octopus kite
Price: $59.99
Okay, so maybe not everyone has a beach to surf. But most people have a breeze (if you don’t, see above for a cordless fan). If you’re into kites, this Giant 26′ Octopus Airfoil Nylon 3-D Kite has eight tentacles that help it stretch out to 26 feet. This could make great fun if you have a wide open field — or want to play a prank on your nosy neighbor by convincing them Lovecraft’s “Cthulhu” has come to visit.
5. Full face snorkel set
Price: $59.99
Speaking of octopuses, here’s a way to see one in person. The Body Glove Aire Full Face Snorkel Set comes with a fog-free face mask that fits softly like a pillow to your face. It has separate chambers for inhaling and exhaling, thus preventing CO2 buildup, and is designed for snorkeling, swim training, and monofinning. While seeing a real octopus in person might be a little frightening — unless it’s cute like the one in My Octopus Teacher — you could also use the crossfins to propel away should you find yourself in a sticky situation.
So there you have it — some of Costco’s most fun and unusual summer products. Keep checking Costco’s website for more summer promotions and deals, and be sure to use one of the best credit cards for Costco to earn the most rewards on your summer purchases.
